In September 2008, during a normal checkup, I had a psa of 4.9 (previous reading was 3.7). The doctor suggested I get another one done in December which came in at 5.9. I was referred to a urologist who decided to put me on antibiotics for a couple of months and then take another test. In March 2009 my psa was again 5.9. The urologist suggest that because of my age (65) and previous health problems (heart, diabetes) that if we did the biopsies and they came back positive, what would be the next step. I guess he was sort of suggesting that I'd die of something else before the cancer. He suggested that we take a "wait and see" approach. If the numbers climbed then we would got to the next step. I agreed to the approach but now after reading various letters on this site, I'm having some self-doubt. Can someone give me their opinion on this. Thanks

PSA increase
Most interesting as my numbers were 3.7 and i jsut had a test at 4.9. I have not yet seen the Urologist and have several problems with this. I am concerned about the next step myself and appreciate your docs input as to trying the anti biotics. I have read we can expect a slowly increasing PSA due to our age (I am 67) I do not want to have over treatment (which I understand can be a problem) or under treatment which results in my demise. I beleive I will attempt to get a second opinion of first, the Lab results of the biopsy, if I must get one, and second I would want to get a second overall opinion from a research group using the latest indications.
