Hi everyone. I'm a 19 year old male and suffered a slight disk bulge and tear in the L5-SI region, about a year ago. I was given physical therapy and I'm currently about three weeks in. Just before I started, I began to have sudden random urges to use the bathroom, almost like a spasm. They would even occur if I didn't have to go. I just ignored it and the weird feelings went away on their own after about a week or so. But recently, I was in the gym and the feeling suddenly came back. It's not as bad as it was before and it seems to happen when I put pressure on my pelvis or abdomen. (example: Standing up , sucking in stomach.) But, It does sometimes still occur randomly if I drank alot of fluids. The sensation never occurs when I'm sleeping and I've never lost bladder control yet. I'm seeing a doctor tomorrow, but I'm afraid that it might be related to my back. The strange thing is that I can't see how, since I've been feeling better than I have in a long time, thanks to the therapy. As you can tell, I'm a little freaked out by this, especially after reading about stuff like Cuada equina. Could there be any other explanation for it?
(P.S- I've also asked my Orthopedic doctor if my injury could cause Cuada Equina and he said there was no way, since the bulging and tear were so small.)
Thank you. Very Happy

Hello Hatton,

Welcome to the forum!!!

When a person with back issues has bladder problems that is a sign for immediate care and possibly surgery by a spinal surgeon.

Don't delay, not even for a day. Quickly search for the best spinal surgeon in your area. Call the doctor and tell him/her your situation regarding your bladder issue. You need to see that doctor within the next day or two.

No, I am not a doctor, just a spiney like most here. However, I have learned enough to know the very significant danger signs.

I wish you the best. Let us know how things go for you.
