I was diagnosed with SLE just over 2
months ago and am waiting for lab results
to determine my tolerance for Plaquenil.
I've been given NSAIDS, Adalat and Pariet
so far.
Approximately 10 days ago I had a cold or
bug of some sort - during which all my
inflammation, joint pain and fatigue
disappeared. It has now started to come
back with a vengence especially in my
hands and wrists. I've noticed what look
like lumps, some tiny and pea sized and
others 3cms +, under my skin in my wrists.
One has doubled in size in the last 2
days, and new ones seem to be appearing
daily. They are very squishy and burn if I
touch them. My wrists as a whole feel like
they are on fire and my fingers and hands
a follwoing suit. I've also started
bruising (on my right side only) on my arm
and leg. I can't get into my
rheumatologist for another week and am
extremely uncomfortable and concerned.
Can anyone give me any insight? Is this
normal in the life of a lupus patient?
Your new events are not normal but in case
of SLE they can be expected. They probably
represent some skin/subskin manifestations
of SLE.

Thanks for your reply.
I've found them now in multiple spots - I
can't see them all but I can feel them
under the skin in my forearms (mostly
right side), tops of my legs and around my
ankles and knees. Is it possible that they
are contributing to my joint pain? They
seem to be around joints that hurt. Is it
some kind of cyst? Can they be removed?
Sorry, but you will have to ask for an
expert opinion from a rheumatologist about
this problem. Those lesions can be also
allergic manifestations to the medicines
you are taking.
