Q: SLAP tear on shoulder
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 28th, 2009
I had an MRI last week and it showed a SLAP tear on my shoulder. I've been in a lot of pain and after visiting an orthopedic he suggested my best course of action was to have a cortisone injection.

My injection was 24 hours ago and I'm still in a lot of pain (and have been prescribed Vicodin along with 800mg IBUprofin and a muscle relaxer. I've never been a great fan of taking meds but my pain and spasms running from my shoulder through to forearm call for me to medicate.

Question: 24 hours after the injection I still have a dull pain in my shoulder. My ortho wanted to try the cortisone to see if it would help reduce the inflammation and help with the healing. SHould I still be feeling a lot of pain post-shot? Also, I'm still relying on the meds to control the pain and try to get some sleep (every 2 hours I have to walk around to reduce the pain). I'm getting the distinct feeling that my only option is to give time and endure (hopefully) lessening pain - Is my situation common?
