I am 36 and I have been fighting with symptoms for nearly 3 years now that my GP and cardiologist diagnosis as anxiety. I have had the basic blood tests an ekg and a 24hr holter monitor which all came up normal. The holter was of course on a good day had no significant palpations... MY BP is often above normal at 135/90 been working to get it lower... I admit there is some anxiety however I feel that I would not have anxiety if I did not have these symptoms that make me feel like something is wrong with me...

I feel skipped beats often thru the day mostly in my throat. I sometimes confirm the skip in my pulse (as when I get one another usually comes shortly after). I had a sinus cold recently and used Claritin D and had multiple STRONG palpitations and now will have to obviously stay away from that. Whenever sitting still like watching TV, at a computer or lying down I can always feel my heart beating in my throat. Sometimes I can even see beats in my chest/stomach... I also have the need urge to take full deep breaths often, often wake up a bit sweaty/hot at night.

My question is should I demand some type on imaging (x-ray, echo, CT Scan) other than the holter and ekg's I have had? Maybe I am just hypersensitive now but I don't understand why I always feel my heart beating and didn't before and the palpitations are scary. I feel like just because of my age Doctors do not push extensive testing as the age/risk factor is low. Do I just trust my Doctors and try anxiety meds or push for more testing second/third opinion?

i had the same problem and nothing came up until i persisted and asked for a 48 hours holter monitor. Dont settle if you are no satisfied with the answer given to you. You know best how your body functions. Needless to say after the 48 hour holter they found i do have a skip and my heart beats go from 40 bpm to 173. So request more to be done
