The size of the uterus changes in the pregnancy as the fetus grows. The size is often given descriptively. For example:
-at about 8 weeks, the uterus feels like the size of an orange.
-at about 12 weeks, it is up to the symphysis pubis (pubic bone).
-at about 16 weeks, it is between the symphysis pubis and the umbilicus.
-at around 20 weeks, it reaches your navel and is cantaloupe-sized.
Touching the uterus in the horizontal position might be more difficult for a non-medical person because the uterus does not put all the pressure on the front abdominal wall.
You might want to visit a gynecologist if you have any doubts whether the size of the uterus is adequate for the gestational week.
