Sinus infection treatments ?

hi i just got over a cold and for 2 weeks after my sinus were hurting bad on to the brink of i couldent even open my eyes propley i tried all the various over the counter tablets etc etc to no avail in the end i made an appoment to see me gp this morning i managed 2 get in. i told him the problem pain under the eyes sinus are hurting me i said. he turned round and said 3 times a day oilbas oil i told him ive tried all these things he said do it wiv a towel on ur head steam inhalation but he persisted to keep doing this and he said i dont need antibiotics but i thought if there was a sinus infection shouldent they have prescribed them in the 1st place hope some 1 can help me here on this one.
