Sinus drainage and pressure after cauterization (Page 2)

I had my left nostril cauterized 2 days ago, and also was not told what to expect. WHAT IS WRONG with these doctors? I was only given information on "How to Prevent Nosebleeds," but not what to expect or what do after the cauterization.
I've had burning nose, and pain radiating down to my jaw. Taking some Tylenol with codeine I had left over from another pain episode, which at least helped me sleep a lot, today. Guess I have a few more days of misery to look forward to. Of course, it will be worth it in the long run, if it prevents future nosebleeds.

Man, i got it done yesterday, they told me they made it numb. when they did it, my nose wasnt numb haha, good to know the dripping is normal. silver nitrate sucks. Do i have to apply vaseline? . At least im not having half an hour nosebleeds anymore tho

No, my nose wasn't numb, either. The first day after wasn't that bad. But, by the second day, nose was draining awfully. I assume this was due to the spray used to open up the sinuses. Finally made Kleenex plugs for the bottom to stop the running. Looked like a walrus with tusks hanging out my nose. By the next day, I was in pain all day, from headache to burning nostril, to jawline. Today, third day, much better. Starting to feel like a human being, again. I think I'll live! lol

I haven't yet experienced some of the things I read about posted by others. e.g. drainage with blood vessels in it, black silver nitrate under the nose, etc.

Advice I got was to use saline spray to keep area moist, saline gel or antibiotic ointment (I'm using Polysporin that I had on hand) or wash hands well, and gently apply a small amount of Vaseline (petroleum jelly) to the inner wall of each nostril every day to prevent drying out.

today i got a my left nostral cauterized. but im concerned that in the future i will feel the scar. Based of experience from you guys im wondering do you notice anything different. if i do the procedure in one nostral and not the other will there be a noticable difference?

No, there should not be a scar. And you don't need to have the other side done unless it is causing nosebleeds. It is usually a problem on only one side.

I had a nose bleed, first in about 3 decades i'm 46 and had severe blood loss. I went to the E.R and was referred over to the ear nose and throat doctor, he said i had two little wounds where he believes i bled from and cauterized them both with silver nitrate... It was no fun. As soon as the chemical touched my sinus it was unvolunteered tears coming down my eyes. I went home that day with pain in my sinus, pain all over the top of my gums, a headache, drippy nose, eyes burning, my throat i found this morning was sore and could barely talk.
For my drippy nose i used Afrin on both nostrils, i can breath good. for my painful jaw and head i took two extra strenght tylenols. i feel good this morning. i don't see any black or gray goo in there.

i had the left side done about 6 hours ago and my nose will not stop running!! its mostly just clear fluid but every now and then it will have a red tint, like bloody. is this normal? i think im going to call the ent's office tomorrow. thanks everyone!

Had sinus surgery to unblock maxillary (cheek) sinus, stents were put into place for a week, removed, and then nasal passage was cauterized which was extremely uncomfortable! Since, I have terrible headache, like I''ve been smacked with a cast iron pot in the face. The pain so severe, I can''t sleep because of it. The only way I can explain the headache, is if you''ve ever had a spinal tap, and the headache that follows.

Just last night I had to have my nose chemically cauterized with silver nitrate due to hemorrhaging. I had that done one other time when it wasn''t bad enough for an ambulance; this time it was. First ride in one, too. No sleep since then...
I have the black under the nose, gray and dark red gunk, constant runny nose, and little to no sleep. A lot of pain in my upper right nostril, the one they cauterized, up to my right eye like a sinus headache. From there, it''s like an arrow shooting through to the back of my head. And I''ve take half of a narcotic pain pill the doctor in the E.R. gave me on my second visit for the mind-numbing pain...
No jaw pain, though. Worse than the last time, but not nearly as bad as when I had it done in 9th grade with the "red hot poker" and /no/ anesthesia. That man tortured kids. Burns remained on my nose for a month that time... He''s still practicing.

I had my left nostril cauterized 2 days ago. Thank you all for posting because my doctor booted me out of the office with no instructions too, except don't sneeze and if I blew my nose, do it gently. Using vaseline (use your pinky finger) has softened some of the gunk and it has come out on its own. I can breathe better now. All of this is still better then bleeding all over my clothes. I wish everyone (including myself) speedy recovery and no future nose bleeds.

had my nose cauterized 3 days ago and am still in pain. I still can't breath out of the side done and the entire side of my face is painful. My doctor gave me no advice other than the pain shouldn't last more than 15 minutes.
My gums and teeth are now hurting and the gums are very red. Does anyone know if this is normal with cauterization, or a coincidence that I should see a dentist for? Any home remedies for red and painful gums?

I had my right nostril cauterized 2 months ago, and had to do it again today as my nosebleeds did not stop as the blood vessels in the area that has been cauterized had closed up, but then the area just before that, further in the nostril, was put under a lot of pressure, causing more nosebleeds again, so the doctor had to cauterize that area. Doctor said that he doesn't know how many times he has to cauterize my nostril until the nosebleeds stop completely, but it'll probably be like another 3 times!

Ah, i forgot how painful this is!! I really hate it, but my mum really wanted me to do it as I had a nosebleed in my exam... caused a lot of hassle! Not good!
...Need tissues ASAP!!

I can't believe none of these doctors have told us about these side-effects... I just got my left nostril done today because of 2 REALLY heavy nosebleeds that would not stop, and I didn't get an instructions on what to do about the pain and side-effects either!!! Since I only got it done a few hours ago, all I'm experiencing right now is the runny nose, tooth pain, and the terrible fear that my nose will start to bleed if I do so much as touch it. Thanks for all the input and advice - I will gladly deal with the pain rather than the terrifying feeling of all the blood in my head running out of my nose like a faucet.

I had both nostrils cauterized 5 days ago and I still have pain on my upper teeth. I'm wondering if this is related to the cauterization where the blood vessels are perhaps rerouting and putting pressure on the nerves in my teeth or if I have a cavity. I tried biting into sweet things but that doesn't seem to cause pain on the tooth. Not sure what to do. I've taking pain killers, applied a tea bag, etc. Any recommendations.

I recently had my left sinus cauterized using the little sticks that have that chemical on it. It was only numb for about a half hour. Once the numbing wore off...I was in terrible pain. My teeth, Jaw and part of my neck were all throbbing! 2 days later I had a HORRIBLE bloody nose and ended up in the ER because the blood was just pouring out of my nose. The ER Dr. Packed my nose and told me to call my ENT Dr. on Monday. On tuesday they removed the packing out of my nose and I was told that they will have to use a more agressive aproach by using the laser and also doing injections in my nose. Since that day my teeth stopped hurting but I feel like I have a sinus infection. Up inside my nose where it was cauterized there is a grayish brownish film that looks like a bubble....it is gross but I cannot blow that sucker out for the life of me and I am also afraid that if I do, my nose will bleed again. Each day that goes by I am feeling better but the laser cauterization is scheduled this tuesday.... I am wondering if it even needs to be done now.

I had mine done today about 3 hours ago in my right nostril with the silver nitrate. The doc numbed my nose thoroughly before the procedure. I can't feel any pain yet but it does feel like I am breathing in very cold air when I breathe and I have the dark spot along the bottom of my nostril. The nose bleeds really scared the day lights out of me and wouldn't stop easily. I have never seen anything like it. I am so glad this appears to be an effective treatment.

I got my nose done on friday and i have been in horrible pain in my throat, teeth, neck, jaw, eye, entire right side of my head. i have never expereinced pain this bad. i called the doc who didn't call me back till monday evening. he called in vicadin Rx which helped me sleep and took the edge off. it is now day 5, tuesday evening and the pain is baaad...has anyone had pain this long? i have to be in a wedding on saturday! i am freaking out..totally upset with no warning and no instructions..help, please tell me this will eventually subside...

Very pleased to find this site! I thought I was going mad. I had my right nose cauterised 5 days ago. I was given some Naseptin cream containing an antibiotic (neomycin) and a disinfectant (chlorhexidine) to snort but no indication to expect any discomfort. I have a modest amount of nasal pain, but the pain in my upper and now lower teeth is unbearable - Ibuprofen and paracetamol (acetaminophen to those on the other side of the atlantic) take the edge off this slightly, but I am finding concentrating at work very difficult. Am hopping that someone will tell me it stop suddenly...!

i just got my nose cauterized yesterday with my stepmom and my mom was really mad because they didnt put me to sleep.and now ive got a black spot on my nose and my nose hurts really bad!the doctor didnt tell me anything about it hurting just told me not to blow it until today.now it feels dried out and i cant go to school.does anyone know ho to get the black spot off and when it will quit hurting?

I just had the doctor use the stick thing to put silver nitrate on my right nostril yesterday. There was a sharp pain as he was doing it and then throughout the day my nostril felt a stinging sensation. My nose was very runny and kept discharging clear mucous.

Today, (1 day later) I awoke after a very troublesome night to find that my jaw and tooth hurt. I got worried that these two pains were unrelated and that I might have a cavity. I really doubted it though, since I don't eat sweets and I take very good care of my teeth. Now I only feel a slight discomfort in my neck, as if my thyroid was a little swollen and a stuffy nose.

My concern was that this morning I saw an indent in the bottom of my right nostril as if some running liquid had created a recession there...... Has anybody else had this issue with silver nitrate??
