Q: signs of cervical cancer
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 13th, 2009
I have recently had a problem with "Leaking" throughout the day, not only when I sneeze or cough, but urine comes out while i am doing everyday activities. Something else, that has recently stopped, the last couple weeks I have been spotting throughout the day, purplish redish blood.

Not only am I having those problems, but I have also noticed that once in a while when I have a bowel movement, I also see bright red blood.
I have HPV, and I wanted to know if these things could be early signs of cervical cancer.

Another question, is that my boyfriend and I have been trying for a baby, and I wanted to know, if having HPV could be passed to , or effect our baby in any way?

Thank you!

According to your description I can identify 3 major problems in your case:

The first one is peeing without will (urinary incontinence). Peeing is a complex neuro-muscular reflex and any damage of the spinal cord, nerves that innervate the bladder, muscles of the bladder, or the bladder’s outer sphincter can cause urinary incontinence. Urinary incontinence can be a sign of cervical cancer but in later stages when the cancer spreads on the bladder.

The second problem is irregular vaginal bleeding (spotting). Spotting can be due to functional or organic reasons. Cervical cancer could be one of the organic reasons. Spotting could be a sign of the cervical cancer in its early stages. Because you are HPV positive and have spotting you should consult your gynecologist as soon as possible.

Your third problem is anal bleeding (enterorrhagia) when having bowel movements. Anal bleeding could be a sign of cervical cancer but only in its latter stages when cancer affects the rectum.

HPV can be passed to the baby during the act of delivery. The baby is safe during the pregnancy.
