Q: Side effects of methotrexade

I have been using methotrexade for about a year now and experience severe abdominal pain for 2 to 3 days after dosage of 10mg once a week.

I take the tablets in the evening and then experience severe pain every morning for 2 to 3 days thereafter. I go to the toilet at least 4 or 5 times before I can go to work. The rest of the day i am fine, until the next morning.

I also use folic acid and tablets to protect my stomach. I think the name of the stomach tablets is Lenemet. Not sure now.

I can not bear the pain anymore but can also not stop using the medication. I have been diagnosed with Ankolising Spondilutis.

What can I do or use to stop the obdominal pain?

Please help, I am desperate!!!!

Welcome to EHEALTH forum!
Stomach pain is one of the most common side effects of using this drug.

Do you have stomach or abdominal pains?
Do you have 4 or 5 bowel movements in form of diarrhea every morning for 2 or 3 days after?
Have you noticed some bloody or black stools?

MTX side effects
I had nausea when I first started with mtx. I later switched to injections and had no more stomach troubles. The injections were subcutaneous, which is not difficult or painful to do. The needle is tiny. I've stopped mtx for other reasons, but if I ever go back, I'll use the injections rather than the pills.
