Found this forum while searching for more info on the duration of DT's relative to the severity. I am on what I hope is the tail end of this horrible nightmare. Have been a power drinker for over ten years on a daily basis. Within the last month have consumed 20-30 beers a day while being laid off in St. louis. Woke up in Colorado on Wednesday at parent's house and recall the drive but don't remember why I left my job, girlfriend, powerdrinker buddies, certain possessions, etc.. Went to AA on night 1 and night 2. This is with no sleep since monday night and 4 comatose hours since then till now(fri). The voices and sounds are everywhere. The images when I close my eyes defy a modern horror movie. At night I see lightning bolts and hallucinations. The trembling, sweating, shaking, high fever, chest pain were enough to make drive (Ididn't drive) towards the emergency room today but a call from my new friend at AA turned us around. He's been through the same. My question is when can I hope to find sleep and some freedom from the incessant side effects of sobering up. It is day 3 without booze.
Scared sober alcaholic....

Don't be sceard
I had one of my patients that was seeing green frogs all over the wall and his bed. I had another one that would try and sleep and swore he was flying around the earth. This is all part and parcel to sobriety. This will subside. You level must be so high, you are having the worst of the withdrawl righ now. Hang in there! If not, one morning you are going to wake up with a head stone on top of you. Life is worth living and you don't need a crutch to deal with it. You may want to think about checking into rehab to help you through this. I sure would.
