I used a 10% benzoyl peroxide cream for a break out on my chin for about a week. The acne is gone, but what I have going on now is worse!!! The skin gets all crusted up, almost like a shell of just really dry skin. But that skin cracks or peels and underneath the skin is red and raw, so it just crusts over again in a day. Its a bad cycle and I dont know how to help it heal....I am sick of not feeling like even leaving the house because of this gross thing on my face! It is nearly impossible to cover with makeup, especially when the skin is raw and red. Make up just makes it look worse. I know it is a reaction to the BP, my skin can be pretty sensitive, I have stopped applying it. I just need to know how to deal with this to speed up (or start!) the healing process. I've been looking online and haven't found too much. PLease help!!!!

THANKS!

This will help
Stop using benzoyl peroxide now since it seems like you could be allergic to it (some people are!) Feel free to put on hydrocortisone cream on your face for a couple of days so that you get rid of the burn like situation (the BP has burned your skin and now it's peeling just like from a sunburn, hydrocortisone is a good emergency remedy for this)If you ever want to use benzoyl peroxide again, I would suggest a much milder product. Acne.Org has a good 2,5% benzoyl peroxide gel. It works just as good without so severe side effects. Personally, I'm sensitive to even it, and I need to start with very thin layers every other night, and then ramp it up slowly. This way your skin can get used to it, unless your very allergic to it. So be carefull! You can go to a doctor and ask for some clindamycin lotion (such as dalacin T). It's an antibiotic lotion that rarely causes bad reactions while it's still effective against inflammatory acne. Best skin care wishes.
