Q: Shrunken and scarred Tonsils?

I recently went to the doctor for joint pain and swelling and during the exam she mentioned my tonsils were not HUGE as I had warned her they were. Now, my whole life my tonsils have been about the size of golf balls. When I got home I checked and indeed they were about half the size of normal and full of holes and craters. WHY?? She called on Monday to say i tested positive for strep without symptoms and I am waiting for more blood work to be done. What is she testing and what happened to my tonsils???
