should metformin be taken once pregnancy is confirmed?

If pregnancy has been confirmed, you can stop with taking the insulin modifier drug (Metformin), and go ahead with getting serial HCG levels estimated. Doubling up of the hormone levels in 48-72 hours will show that pregnancy is going on smoothly. If levels are not adequate, then external hormonal supplements would be considered to be started to help you in preventing miscarriage/threatened abortion. An ultrasound scan done will also help to confirm gestational age of fetus/baby along with fetal wellbeing and viability. Treatment as needed (based on examination findings and investigations results) would be started to help you control the symptoms and progress with pregnancy smoothly. Consider being in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle. Avoid all activities that cause increase in abdominal pressure.
