Q: Should I get an MRI?

4 months ago I was hit by a car while crossing the street. I was taken to the hospital and an x-ray was done. I followed up with my general practictioner. He said I should be ok in a week or two. I asked for physical therapy because after a week I was not feel much better. I did p/t for 4 months. The other day my p/t said she would recommend an MRI. I followed up the my general doctor and he checked me out again, but said I don't see any reason for spending $1500 on an MRI and that he does not think I have any neurological issues. He said due to my age, 47 that I should not expect to ever be 100% again. He said I was at 90% recovered and to just keep doing the excercises and discontinue p/t because it will not help.

Well I am worried that there could be something really wrong with my shoulder. On a scale of 1-10, the pain is a 3 and constant. I have it everyday. He said if I sleep weird or if my computer is in the wrong position at work then I should correct this; however I believe further investigation needs to be done. The pain is in my right shoulder; lower part of my neck, travels down to my elbow. The other day I had tingling in my left left to the foot. I think I need an MRI or second opinion. What do you think?

Did you have this issue before the accident?

If not, then it is more than likely accident related and why settle for 90% when you want to be 100% like you were before this incident happened?

I would get a second opinion, preferably from a good, reputable neurologist. And a neurologist would more than likely order an MRI or appropriate test(s).
