shortness of breath and chest tightening Posted: 03-15-08 14:13pm
I have been trying to figure out what may
have caused what happened to me last
night. Im 22 years old though so a heart
attack would be a little odd maybe, I
dunno. Anyways, I went to bed last night
~5am (im a night person) with my
headphones on listening to music. I
started to get shortness of breath. I
couldnt go more then 4-5 breaths without
having to suck in a really large one or
two to "catch up" or so it felt. Kinda
felt like my lungs got smaller so I was
having to breathe more.
Then every couple of minutes there would
be this thing that lasted for like 2
seconds. It felt like my chest area
tightened up, felt this weird tingling,
and I got very dizzy, but it only lasted
for like 2 seconds, very quick. After
that I would be breathing harder.
Throughout there was pretty much no chest
pain, just the shortness of breath, and
that weird thing that happened 3-4 times
maybe. However, it wasnt like I was
running a marathon, I could slow my
breathing temporarily but I would still
start feeling like I was out of breath.
Dont remember falling asleep, but I woke
up and everything felt fine as any other
day. I smoke cigarettes regularly, and
have been taking vicodine (contains
tylenol) regularly lately.
Just curious as what this could be. First
time it has happened. Thanks for any
insight.

It might be reaction to the Vicodone. Be
you have a heart rythm problem or asthma.
I have all problems. Reacton to
Hydrocodone ( vicodone) and also heart
problem had it for a while now. Iam now 29
how ever have been treated for it since
2003. Been in out of the hospital since
2003 wth it and 2004 sent to a heart
doctor for the heart problem one that
deals with rythm problems. I reccomend
going to your doctor and letting him check
you out.

Heey, your post matched my problem
exactly. i'm 23, I have the same habits,
bedtimes, and symptoms. It scared the ****
out of me when it first started happening
two nights ago. I did some research and it
looks like we have sleep apnea. It's
treatable and not as serious as the
previous response, so let's really keep
our fingers crossed. I'm headed to the
doctor tomw so I'll follow up then. Did
you find anything that worked for you?
