Q: Shorter than normal periods and ovulation bleeding
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 2nd, 2009
hi, I have had longer period cycle since my 1st menses. But after my delivary which was on august 13th 2008, i have had regular periods. even if there is a difference between the days it would be only 4 to 5 days, at most. but this time, my last periods was on 19th April and today on may 2nd, i noticed as a beginning of my periods. it has been only 13 days. For the past few days i have had very less sleep for say around 4 to 5 hours. I have dealt with late periods but early periods..... Also i didn't have any sexual relationship with my husband since my last period so it cant be being pregnant i am a little freaked out now as i have never such a problem before please tell me why is this happening and am i fine? Also, I am an overweight person but have started dieting since last 2 weeks and have lost a kilo.

It seems likely that this time you might have experienced a shorter period than usual. If this is true, then the bleeding you experienced might be ovulation bleeding. Both the shorter period and the ovulation bleeding might occur due to a hormonal imbalance.

You might want to visit your gynecologist for a physical examination and laboratory tests including testing for the female sex hormone levels.
