Step father had a heart attack and he has lost his short term memory, and seems 2 be very confused. No-one is telling us weather or not if his memory will come back or not. So could you please help so we can know if we need to make arrangments for him to go in a home or not.
Heart attack usually does not affect the memory. But a stroke which might have occurred at the same time might have caused enough damage for lost of memory. Imaging methods (Computer Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging) might reveal if and how much the brain is damaged. Based on that data, a neurologist might try to give a prognosis of the lost of short term memory.
