In January this year I had an attack of Shingles on one half of my face. Since I have recovered, but the stinging pain (PHN)is still lingering. My treatment for Shingles was the same medicine for treating Herpes Its eleven months now since the attack and seems it is going to last a long time more. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
It is difficult to comment on the cause for your symptoms (persistence of the stinging pain), without examining you and going ahead with further evaluation (as needed based on examination findings). You should consider visiting your doctor/dermatologist at the earliest for further evaluation to look for the underlying cause for the persistence of symptoms. Treatment as appropriate (based on the examination findings and investigation results) would be started to help you control your symptoms. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up of your treating doctor/dermatologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Take adequate rest. Drink plenty of water. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle.
Take care.

Thank you for your advice Dr Madhumita. I have seen my treating doctor twice and he prescribed the following oral medication for my PHN. Gabapentin and Amitriptyline Hydrochloride 25mg which did not help. I understand there is a Lidocaine patch which is applied externally but has a warning note that lidocaine is not to be applied on the face. My shingles was on the left half of my face.
