Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
Emergency contraceptives work in preventing pregnancy if taken within 48-72 hours of the unprotected intercourse. These pills contain high doses of hormones which can disrupt the normal hormonal balance and result in changes in the bleeding pattern. If she is already got pregnant (possible due to contraceptive failure), then the pregnancy cannot be prevented at this stage as the fetus is already formed by now. In this case, she has to visit a gynecologist to confirm the pregnancy and proceed with recommendations as given by the gynecologist after examination and tests.
Take care.
