The right upper abdominal pain that is triggered by changes of body posture and breathing, can be due to broken lower right rib or ribs.
Strained muscle of abdominal wall can be a reason for right upper abdominal pain that gets worse with breathing, stretching of the upper part of the body or moving.
Pneumonia affecting the right lung, besides right side chest pain, can give right upper abdominal pain, too.
Pleurisy or inflammation of chest lining needs to be taken into consideration.
If the right upper abdominal pain is dull and felt more like discomfort, the liver need to be checked for inflammation, infections, liver abscess and other liver disorders.
