Q: sharp pain between lower ribs

For the past couple years I have been experiencing severe pains in my upper abdomen/lower chest between or beneath the ribs on my left side. These pains used to come about once a week or less and last only about 3 - 10 seconds. However, now it's become a daily occurance and happens more than once a day now. These pains are also staying longer that they did previously. It's made worse by inhaling, and generally moving at all. I tend to hold my breath and stay as still as possible during these pains. Is this a normal occurance? I mean everyone gets aches and pains from time to time. Am I ridiculous for worrying or should I see my local doctor? I didn't want to go if they were just going to tell me it was fine and send me on my way, I don't have time for it with my busy work schedule.

What do you guys think?

i think seeing as you your sayin these pains are now staying longer and lasting longer it may be best to see your doctor hun! i also experienced this myself but mine due to stress and the pain was also down my left arm and in the left of my face accompanied by tingling, scary lol but was stress all the same, not relating this to your story as could be something completely different but do you have any other symptoms of just as youve explained??

That's basically the only symptom. The only reason I wouldn't say it's stress related is because as of late, I've been happier than I have been in a very long while. I love my job. I actually wake up going, "YES! Time for work!" My family life is good. So I'm not sure. I used to get pains similar to this in my chest 5 years ago, but after many tests they said I was fine. So I don't think it's related. It may be. The chest pains were more dull than sharp though and felt more like someone putting a lot of pressure on me.

id just be on the safe side and go bk to your doc, tell him thats its come bk so to speak and you want a second opinion, i too had the pressure, like something heavy on my chest, but you never know, it could just be nothing or it might not so just be safe and see what doc has t say about it again, sometimes they dont see things 1st time round, iv only just after 7 years of bugging my doctor been sent t see a specialist about the pains i was experiencing in my legs, turned out it was sciatica and i have a bulging disk at bottom of my spine! silly how they miss these things but it happens hun!! xxx

Cannot breathe fully

There are times when I get severe pain and it feels like I can't breathe or inflate my lungs. STRESS! I find it helpful to practice deep breathing daily. There are yoga practices for this, or meditation practices. Either way, full inhlae and full exhale of the lungs keeps them in shape AND relaxes you!

Have you had an x-ray of your abdomin? About 3 years ago I was experiencing similar symptoms and it turned out that my large intestine is kinked and it caused my intestine to expand and my spleen to swell.
