Q: shaking head

My mom shakes her head (not hands, head only) frequently. It has been going on for at least 10 years, getting worse, but with no other symptoms. It is involuntary, and a doctor once diagnosed it as rheumatoid arthritis. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. What do you think?

Can you describe the head shaking? Is it like "No-no" movements?
Can you give me some more data (if there are any) from her medical history and personal data (age, profession,...)?
