Okay so, being on your period(2nd day), while finishing up your first birth control pack(taking sugar pills) and having unprotected sex.

High chance of pregnancy?

Not at all. You are completely protected during your period week, as long as you have taken all the pills correctly and start taking them again on time.

what about if you miss a day sometime before you period but take it the next day, or what if you have the flu and get sick, could that cause a risk of getting pregnant?

If you miss one pill for whatever reason, and take it as soon as you remember (like the instructions say) you are still protected from pregnancy. So that means if you forget a pill and take it the next day (with that day's pill) or even throw up and think you might have thrown the pill up, as long as it only happens once within a week, you should still be protected.

If you miss multiple pills within a week or throw up a lot (within a few hours of taking your pill, multiple days in a row) then your protection is compromised and you should use back up protection for seven days.

yes

Oh, and I should say, seven days means seven days of taking your pill correctly each day, and not the placebo pills. So if the seven day waiting period falls on the placebo pills, (period week) I'd use protection (condoms or something) until after the first week of real pills. Does that make sense?
