I have been sexually active for about three-four years now (I'm 20, I started at 17) and no matter what I do, it still seems to hurt and sometimes incredibly bad.

I never had the experience of "popping a cherry", there was never blood or anything of that nature the first time, or even times after that of having sex. The first time I visited the gyno he refused to do a pap smear because my hymen was intact, even though I had already had sex at that point. I assumed that was my problem up until my next yearly visit, where a pap smear was preformed, and the doctor made no mention of my hymen still being intact.

I just don't know what to do. It's not that sex doesn't feel good, because sometimes it does. But other times it's just painful and I feel horrible because I can't get into things for my partner because I'm attempting to avoid the pain. If anyone has any advice, please let me know!

Exercise might help.
You might need to exercise your penis. Sometimes exercises like Jelqing, Kegeling and all other sorts can help.

Well from reading, it sounds like you do indeed have an intact thick hymen. The first doctor may simply have been rather "backwards" thinking and refused you a pap smear because he felt he'd be removing your virginity or something - lmao!! The second doctor probably didn't mention it because he or she didn't feel it was an issue.

The intact hymen is probably what's causing your pain. It can be dealt with, but it's going to take another gynecologist appointment and specifically telling them you have painful sex and you believe it is due to your hymen that won't break.

I agree with Eiri.
And I've heard that a man's penis has to be atleast 5" to break most women's hymen. Some are much thicker and harder to break than others.
My first time it HURT. I bled and bled and cried! I had a very thick hymen. I actually bled the first 3 or 4 times I had sex. Then it STILL hurt for a long time after. But eventually it will go away as long as the hymen is totally broken.

You can have the hymen broken by a gynecologist so it doesn't cause excessive pain and bleeding, and this is actually necessary in some cases where normal sexual intercourse - like the OP's - can't break the hymen.
