Q: Sex during the period and plan B
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 26th, 2008
So my g/f and I had sex a couple hours after she started her period and i came in her for the 1st time and kinda freaked out so i went and bought Plan B and she took it about 5 hours after we had sex. The 3rd day of her period, she stopped bleeding which she usually has 5-7 day periods. Im nervous because her period stopped and really just scared. If you could tell me, id like to know what the chances are of her being pregnant and why her peroid has stopped early. Thank you for your time and i appreciate the help.

Having sex while having a period is generally safe. Sex is absolutely safe if it happens at the beginning of the period. It could be unsafe at the end of the period if the period lasts longer and the cycle is shorter.

In your case (had sex a couple of hours after period had begun) emergency contraception (“Plan B”) was probably unnecessary.

Any normal period occurs when estrogen levels drops at the end of the cycle. The “Plan B”-pills contain high doses of estrogen so it is expected for a normal period to stop when the body gets enough estrogen hormones from outside.
