Hello, for over a month now, both hands are losing feeling in thumbs and pointer finger when I try and sleep. The pain is severe and no matter what I do, I cannot get the feeling to return in them. I have even resorted to stepping on them to try and ease the pain and maybe get some blood flow, but to no avail. They also turn very white when this happens. I have tried wrist braces, it is worse on my sides but laying on my back provides little relief. I am tired and depressed. Those fingers have reduced feeling during the day and they are swelling and splitting open, bleeding easily and not healing well and getting infected. I know I have severe neck problems also but I have no insurance, so seeing a doctor, getting medicine and running tests are not an option. I know there is prob. nothing anyone can do but i just thought (or hoped and prayed) that maybe there was a home remedy or maybe vitamins or something that may help. Thank you so much for your time...sincerely, Christine
Occassionally neck problems, which press on nerves going to the hand can cause numbness/tingling and pain in the thumb and index finger (that would be the C6 level). Carpal tunnel syndrome also causes these same symptoms. However, it is bothersome, when you say that your hands turn white, split open, and don't heal well. That leads more to a vascular problem. Loss of blood supply to a body part can cause all the symptoms you describe.
I know you don't have insurance, but, there is one thing you can do. If you smoke, you need to stop. Also, especially if you have nonhealing wounds, you could end up losing fingers or even a hand to amputation.
Check with your local board of health to see if you qualify for government aid. If you have a medical school close by, they often take care of patients without any money up front. Just don't let this get too far out of hand. It could have significant ramifications down the road.
