I woke up Last Sunday with a bad pain in the back of my neck. At first I just thought maybe I slept wrong. For 10 days now the pain has not gone away or gotten any better. It is a severe pain where the neck meets the back of your head accompanyed by a severe headache and stiffness of the neck. I have to turn my head very slowly and it feels like my head is very heavy. It has now gotten to the point were last night I was crying and could not fall alseep. I am a 32yr old female, I take Zoloft, smoker, and mother of 2 kids,. Please help this pain is getting worse and no accidents just woke up like this. I have changed pillows laid flat used heat taken Excedrin nothing is helping

Hi hon..I just saw your post..Go see your doctor..Any time the neck is stiff there could be more things going on than headache..

It's very possible you could have a pinched nerve or pulled muscle but please be safe than sorry..

Neck pain and headaches reply
Hi Christie,

There are a few things that could be causing your pain. The most common cause of waking up with a stiff, sore neck, usually with trouble turning to one side is a condition called torticollis. The cause is basically a muscle that has gone into spasm. The best treatment would be to appy heat, massage, gentle chiropractic and gentle stretching.

Do you have any pain going down your arm? If so then a nerve could be involved and I would definately recommend that you see a good chiropractor.

Hope that helps.
