Hi,
I hope you can help me with this. First off I am a 51 year old female and this only happens to me while I am asleep. The right side of the back of my neck wakes me up in the middle of the night from severe pain. It is located behind my right ear where the ball of my neck is. It is so severe I cannot move my head. I have to hold it to sit up in bed to turn over. I have had xrays and they showed nothing. I have osteoarthritis, fibromaylgia, emphysemia, along with other health problems. These are the major ones I thought I would mention.
I am on strong pain medications such as oxycontin, hydrocodone, melicam, and others.
My pain management said it most likely arthritis.
I have been in 2 serious car accidents in my life. One when i was 17 and the other one when I was 42. I wasnt told that I had whiplash. I did have serious facial injuries in the first accident. I went thru the windshield on the expressway.
The second one we were hit head on by a truck on a 35 mile per hour street. I suffered broken ribs, chest bone.
Nothing was said about my neck thou.
I have never experience this type of pain in my life. I do not suffer from migraines. This is like having a worst headache, or like my neck fell asleep on me. I can't explain the pain. It is just too horrible.
I would give anything if someone would know what steps I could take to find out what is wrong. I read about anurysms and I wonder if that is happening to me, the pain is that bad.
It only happens when I sleep and when I lay on my left side. And it is the right side of my neck that gives me the pain.
Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
