Q: Severe pain during sexual exertions
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 29th, 2008
Every time that I have sexual intercourse or masturbate, I have a shooting pain that starts in my groin on the right side and shoots up my stomach. This occurs when I get close to ejaculation. It immediately puts a stop to any sexual activity because the pain is so severe. Does this have something to do with my past inguinal hernia operations or is this unrelated? Please help me diagnose this problem. Thank you very much.

Current medical status: I have had two inguinal hernia surgeries in the past four years. One on the left, one on the right. I haven't had any problems with either one of them since the surgeries were done.

The severe pain indicates that a nerve has been damaged. Probably there is no physical damage. Probably there is a scar tissue that has grown in that area after the operations. It seems that the tissue usually does not put pressure on the nerve, except in certain situations.

You might want to check for yourself by pulling your penis in the same direction and with the appropriate strength as when the pain appears.

You might want to seek help from a urologist to exclude certain other diagnoses related to organs in that part of the body.
