My name is Nanette and I found out a week ago that I had a 6mm stone causing an obstruction in my right kidney.
My dr placed a stent and sent me home the next day since they did not have the lithotripsy machine available at the time they placed the stent. Went back 2 days later through the ER in extreme pain and the dr. then did remove the stent and did the lithotripsy to break up the stone. They placed another stent and left the strings on the outside for me to pull it out myself the next day. I went home after surgery and felt pretty good other than the usual pain associated with the procedure. I was given a prescription for Pyridium and Motrin 800 since I can't take any type of narcotics due to vomiting. The next day I pulled out the stent as told and have been in extreme pain ever since. I found out I have a Urinary Tract infection and was given Cipro. The thing is, I almost can't take any medicines without some type of negative reaction. The Cipro is causing me to have depression, feelings of dread and other unpleasant side effects. I have elected to stop taking it. I can't go another moment feeling that way. The pain I am feeling starts in my groin and feels like a stone is literally ripping my ureter. Then the pain goes into my kidney-and when I say pain, I mean pain that feels like my kidney is going to explode. These episodes happen 2-3 times a day and usually last 3 hours which consists of me pacing, rocking and crying and screaming like mad woman. My poor family. I went back to the ER yesterday and they did a CT scan. Found out that my kidney and ureter are both still dialated, but there are no stones. They diagnosed me with "renal colic" and gave me a prescription for Enavil??? and told me to make a appt with my urologist. Enavil? Enavil is an anti-depressant! Why would I need that? I have an appt this afternoon with my dr, but in the meantime, was wondering if anyone here has experienced this much pain post operatively with no stones present. I do plan on getting another antibiotic today for the UTI, but I know this will not help with the spasms I'm experiencing with I am sure is causing the pain. I am so confused, so scared and just want my life back. I haven't been to work for almost 2 weeks. Also, this is not my 1st kidney stone. I have had at least 5 other surgeries in alternate sides and have NEVER experienced this much pain for so long post operatively. Please help me somebody!!
