I have had severe chronic heartburn for 4 years. Pain always on right side of chest, right side of throat and mouth, and right side of back especially just under shoulder blade. None of the medications prescription or OTC help. No diet modifications help. Pain is worse shortly after eating and much worse at night. I sleep sitting up in a chair and still have pain that limits sleep. A month ago I had the surgery Nissen Fundoplication. That has not helped. I no longer think acid reflux is the problem but so far my Doctors are reluctant to look for anything else. Any idea what could be causing the pain.

Hello,

Welcome to ehealthforum

The most common cause of heartburn is gastritis and hyperacidity issues. The symptoms described by you are indicative of that.I hope an Endoscopy was done before the procedure. You might see improvement after few weeks.
Wait and follow the lifestyle modification. If the symptoms persist kindly visit a Physician for examination.

Take Care!

i have many of the same symptoms. heartburn, chest pain, back pain, lump in throat. No medication has helped at this point. I had a barrium swallow and they found a small hietal hernia, but the doctors are still not concerned. When I talk about the pain they look at me like I have 2 heads. The barrium swallow (only the thin liquid was used) didnt show any reflux, I tried to explain that it happens with food, but still they are not cncerned. I have so much pain the middle of my chest that is scares me and I think that this makes it worse. Can anyone help?
