sometimes when i laugh or stand up from a sitting position i get a severe headache at the base of my neck that travels up, it is so severe I have to stop and bend my head back or sit down so it will go away. Sometimes i feel nausea after the headache. It never lasts more than 10-20 seconds but it is extremely painful. I dread laughing because it hurts so bad. It scares me cause i have a one year old and many times it happens when i am playing with him. God forbid it happens what i am driving with him. My doctor said it could be from old glasses and swelling by the ear drums but i got new glasses and am taking claritin and it still continues. PLEASE ANY info would help.

There is a distinct type of headache known as laughing headache, being in a same group with coughing, sneezing headaches, since all these maneuvers along with bending over, increase the blood pressure in the veins in head, resulting in this type of headache.
The laughing headache usually comes on suddenly and lasts for a few seconds to several minutes as sharp or stabbing and is typically located on both sides of the head and at the back of the skull.
This could be a harmless, primary headache (without underlying condition), or a secondary headache, a sign that you may have a more serious condition like brain tumor, brain vessel aneurysm or brain vessels malformation (especially, when the headaches get worse and more frequent overtime).

See your physician and ask for a MRI and even MRI with a contrast, for true evaluation!

Best wishes!
