Q: Severe constant stomach cramps

I'm desperately seeking clues about what can be wrong with my 16 year old daughter. For the last two months, she has been experiencing extreme, constant stomach cramping, severe constant headaches, and a constant rectal pain, especially severe during/after defecation. We've seen a number of gastroenterologists, a neurologist, a rheumatologist, a rectal specialist, and general practitioners but none have an idea about what is wrong.

In the past 5 days, we have noticed the cramping is getting progressively worse. She wanted to avoid using Vicodin (causes constipation) earlier but now needs it daily due to the intense pain. She has been taking Miralax to help with bowel movements. She is basically bed ridden now. She has insomnia but interestingly when she eventually does fall asleep she can sleep for 8 or more hours (the pain does not seem to wake her).

She has taken just about every imaginable test and all have been negative at this point. She did have a brain MRI that showed a small white spot in the temporal lobe that could cause abdominal seizures but her stomach cramping is constant and the neurologist didn't think that was the problem.

Her current symptoms:

• Severe, constant stomach cramping in a circle around the navel. Now it hurts to even move.
• Severe, constant headache
• Constant rectal sensitivity and pain but severe during/after defecation (no roids or fissures diagnosed). Using topical lidocaine for pain
• Constipation
• Extreme difficulty defecating but this may be due to a stretched colon from severe constipation
• Bloating (we went through a cleanse a few days ago and after she was cleaned out her stomach was still bloated, hard and distended. MRIs have shown her stomach and colon filled with air as if she's swallowing air. Her stomach makes tremendous noises at times.
• Area where stomach cramping occurs is very sensitive to the touch
• Insomnia has increased in last two months
• Occasional tingling in extremities, arms and legs fall asleep too easily
• Recent (within the last week) sensitivity to light
• Recent sensitivity to motion (e.g., car sickness, never had that before)
• Has had dimmed vision about 2 - 3 times per month where she practically blacks out temporarily. Not necessarily related to standing up suddenly.
• Sustained colonus (after meeting with the neurologist this does not seem to be related but we have a few more neurological tests to confirm)
• She seems to have an itch in her throat and has to clear it to satisfy the itch.
• Painless swelling at the base of her back (started about 3 weeks ago, doctors have no idea)

Thanks.

Doctor
Did you make upper endoscopy and colonoscopy during all those medical examinations?
How long she has been taking Vicodin and Miralax?
How long she has been experiencing insomnia?
Does she feel pain during the sleep?
Has she ever being examined by ophthalmologist about her vision problems?
Can you tell me some data about her previous medical history?

stomach pains
I have severe cramps before I pass a bowel or have diaherra. I have chills when this happens and pressure in my right leg. It feels lilke a heaviness or like a dull pain the shoot down my leg. The cramps start around my navel and spread out. Sometimes I have nausea with this. What should I do or try?

Normal or Abnormal??!!
I have severe cramping, nausea, and sometimes needing to go to the restroom. I'm a teenager and this has been happening way back since November 2008 until present day today. I don't know if this is normal or not, but for me it feels like it has been ruining my life. Sometimes it gets so painful I just feel like dying. It usaully happens in the mornings but then goes away or it may even come back in the afternoon. This usaully happens before and after I have my peroid. What could be wrong??

Please please please!!! I came across your note on here about your daughter. My son is only four years old and has every single symptom that your daughter has. He has had numerous doctors and tests and no one seems to know what is wrong. Did you find out anything???? I cant imagine every day the pain they are in, he has to wait until the 19th of this month to see another doctor but every day he is dealing with this. CONSTANT STOMACH PAIN in a cirlce around his belly button
headaches
dizzyness
eye blurry occasional
back hurts
tired, black and puffy eyes
knees, arms hurt (says he has no more power in his legs)
motion sickness when i rock him in the chair
light sensitive
pain only occasion when going poo
cold sweats at night

The pain DOES NOT GO AWAY at any point it is always there, either it is real severe, or it is just there.
You are the only person i have found so far on this site with such simular symptoms, i am at a loss, i am making myself worry sick trying to find answers as i feel like the doctors cannot ever give me one.
What did they find with your daughter??? Have you got any answers???? What makes her have a tiny bit of relief?? Is there anything you can help me with????
Please write back.........

we recently discovered what was wrong with our son. Thru a natural path and an x ray done at hospital. I thought this would be helpfull for you. Although many x rays could show nothing there is always one that will come back if there is an issue. We were fortunate enough to finally have one of his x rays reveal that he has a calcification inside his small intestine. Everytime he drinks or eats his intestines move to push the food thru and this calcification thing is stabbing him. Very painful. He was also reacting to his meds for acid reflex causing the headaches and dizzyness, blurry vision ect..... you may want to look at your daughters meds, and get another x ray. Sometimes your organs can shadow blocking a particular view. Hope this helps!!!
