I have had 5 back surgeries, two occured in 1999 when my daughter was 4 to 8 months old, the Dr was a major quack, he just shaved down the herniated disc which was 11 mm herniated he did this twice and put in my medical files that he did a discectomy DUH!!.. then in 2002 when I couldnt stand the pain any longer I found a wonderful Dr who did an MRI and found that I had major nerve impingment and my herniation was over 6mm. he said we would just watch it, I agreed. In 2004 I had finally had enough and went in and told him I wanted the disc removed, Obviously it hadnt been removed,, DUH!! and he did a fusion on the L5-S1 area, I had had a tailbone break (on purpose with my ob when I had my son, I should have had a c-section) anyways he fixed me up, then I went back in in 7- 2007 to have the fusion removed I was laying down one day and felt the metal, they did the MRI and he told me the metal was working its way out of my back. so they removed it, for a month I felt great. Obviously I had nerve damage sine 1999 but never recognized it until the Dr told me in 2002 that my leg pain was caused from nerve damage and would never recover, just last august `1st I had another surgery to remove a vertebrea that was free floating and had been broken from I dont know what.. and now I am living on pain medication.. It is so bad the leg pain that that I cant do anything, I have no quality of life, I requested to see my Dr again he told me i could have a pain pump and that I could have a spinal stimulator, I may have to do a trial with them but it will be worth it, I am taking so much pain medication that I cant stand it, I hate it! Has anyone had anything remotely close to this and what did you do??? I need advice!! Rex

Leg Pain
I have had similar situation. Had disk surgury then he said he found bone spurs in back. They did a lamenecomy and they damaged nerves in my back. It feels like I have a toothache in my legs and I still have sharp shooting pains from my butt, legs and feet. When my pain meds start to wear off I start getting a hot tingling pain. without taking any meds my legs hurt so much and feel so heavy that I can not do anything. It never goes away, even when in a spa. I had a stimulater put it and the wire lead into my spine came loose so they took it out. I didnt like it anyway and it didnt cover the pain very much. Any advise would be welcome to lessen pain.

ive had 4 surgeries since 2001 on L5-S1 dicectomy and spinal fusion but no rods my bones were too small. they used bone from my hip and it worked good. i have the nerve damage too and pain in my sciatica right leg hard to sleep because of the pressure on leg and hip/thigh area. my last fusion really took alot of the pressure off my legwhich felt like a rubber band was tied around it now its better i had a great dr. thank God. my first ones were thr problem i too had shavings loose after my first and had to go back in . treated me awfull because they felt i should be ok and i wasent so they pawned me off on other dr's. but i got lucky my last one was good. im on all kinds of meds but i dont take them as they say too i put up with the pain and take only when i need to sleep or on my own terms im terrified of over medicating and never waking up. i did one time and it scared me. i use duragesic patches, they do good enough pain will always be there. so i also take cimbalta and zanaflex and tofranil and lyrica.ive tried so many to get to this lot but i go on lol. i have so many side affects its not funny. my poor husband lol. but thank God im here and i just live with it, good luck everyone ask me anything ive been there lol.
