I have been on Alesse for one month and I am a few days from finishing my second month. I started the first pack on the first day of my period. Here is what has been happening so far: First couple of weeks I had continuous spotting ranging from every other day to a few days in a row.

I was highly irritable and angry and depressed suddenly one day and in the next couple of days I got my period which was one week early (this is in the first month.)
My period lasted for 8 days (never happened before), I had severe pain that lasted very long and the bleeding didn't start to subside until about the seventh day. The rest of the time it was heavy bleeding. Usually my heaviest time would happen inside of three days and then lighten up, as well as cramps.

Side note: The first day I started taking the pill at 7pm and have been since. I take it EXACTLY at 7pm everyday and I have not missed a single pill.

I have had breast tenderness since the first day I started taking the pill and it is still persistent. My acne has had no change. (still as bad as before)

I am into my second month now and so far no early period, but I am undergoing days of extreme depression and lots of crying. I've had it last up to 2 days. I have had days of extreme happiness and within those days I have had terrible mood swings.

My breasts are still extremely tender to the point where it hurts like a b*tch when my boyfriend gently brushes past my nipple with his finger for example. Hugging is another matter all together.

My acne is still the same.

Anyone gone through something like this or similar and did it all change and settle down?

I am on my second month now...first month was excellent, I had no side effects what so ever. Now after about 1.5 weeks, I had spotting, which i thought was implantation bleeding as it was exactly 8 days after having unprotected sex. But then, i bled a bit the day after that, then on the third day it was like i was having a small period, and now since that 3rd day, i've been bleeding and cramping too (bloating included)...i 6 more pills to finish the pack and i have to go see my doctor to renew the prescription anyways so i am going to inquire...i may stop the pill if im still bleeding the next few days b/c i have read somewhere that if it gets heavier to stop and see the doctor.
As for you, I have researched alesse and i have heard that people get depressed...i was depressed often the last month, but i cant say if its directly related to the pill b/c i have been in general not happy. I think the pill made me really tired the other week but now i seem fine...i dunno....alesse is weird. But when i see my doc i'm going to see what he says.

Good luck.

Update
It's been close to six months now I've been on the pill. My period remains irregular. Still painful. Depression and breast pain seems to have subsided. However I still don't feel right taking this pill. It is simply unnatural. Alesse is certainly weird to say the least. I will not be continuing the use of Alesse or any other form of hormone birth control and I wish there could be something better out there for us ladies.

I had been on Alesse for over a year, year and a half. I have been off of it for a month. I had just the psychological side effects. I had no interest in sex, nor did I have any interest in life in general. It made my relationship difficult. I was always stressed out and depressed. Being off of it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am back to my " old self". Happy go lucky. If you feel like crap mentally every day from the pill get OFF OF IT. There are many other ways to prevent pregnancy etc.

mood swings
I just started my third month on Alesse and I was planning to stay on for one more week until I have a doctor's appointment, but I think I am going to stop taking it. I was afraid of the side effects of stopping (if there are any), but I can't imagine feeling any worse than I do now. I have been having extremely intense mood swings as some of you described, not able to function in my relationship and not able to think of things I would enjoy doing. My boyfriend is upset that I seem so unhappy lately, ie the last two months. I was going to try to stick it out for all 3 months to see if it evens out but it doesn't seem worth it -- I thought it was a bit better the 2nd month, but it was only week 2 that was okay and every other week was hell. Sad

Always Irritable
I have been on Alesse for about 4 years now...unfortunately the mood swings don't improve (at least not in my case). I use it to subside my cramps, which are extremely painful. It has regulated my periods and my flow is a lot lighter than before.

It has had some pretty nasty effects and it can be depressing at times, but I guess I'll take this over the pain, since nothing else has seemed to work -

I've been on Alesse for over 2 years, switched off from Ortho Evera.
I have no major problems with it, just irregular menstrual cycle, that doesn't phase me. it's just one or 2 days late/one or 2 days early, and stops 2 days early... as for the mood swings, i haven't had anything server. just cranky most time in the morning, but i'm fine after a while. my period has hardly ever been painful, and quite a bit lighter than before which is nice.
i think it basically depends on the person. i knew a girl who switched from Alesse to Ortho Evera because of the moodswings, and i did the opposite for the same reason.
