my son is being evaluated for autism. I really don't think that is what it is, but something is definately wrong. He panics when we pull his shirts on or off. He has this look of terror and cries every single time, and freaks out when you try to cover him with a blanket for nap or bedtime. He also has these violent temper tantrums where he hurts himself almost every day, and they come out of nowhere it seems, he runs into walls and into tables and i am started to get really worried. the doctor wants to rule out seizures and autism but i am wondering if the sensory issue is something that i should even bring up and i am wondering what the symptoms are. I am super sucky at the computer and am having trouble finding much on this. just wondering if anyone knows.

Sensory processing or integration disorder is more common than one would think. It is estimated that 1 of every 20 children experience it. I have it and 3 of my children have it in some form or another. Only one as it severe enough to receive therapy. It can be a part of the autism spectrum so your dr is right to want to rule that and other things out before giving diagnosis. Have you checked out spd foundation?
