My mother has seizures caused by panic attacks, and its really scary and I just want to talk. Her panic attacks are caused by emotional stress. It has been happening for about 1 year now, and they are getting more frequent, in fact she just had one last night. Before this started, she didnt get emotional like this. But now the slightest thing sets her off, like if someone on television or a movie is injured or killed. Or if she sees an ambulance go by her mind starts racing, 'What if...'
It really scares me and I have no one to turn to. I cant talk to my family, and I have no friends really to talk to.
thx

hey
are they sure the seizures are caused BY panic attacks? my husband has both grand mals and panic attacks/anxiety disorder. i have severe panic attacks, but im more than certain ive never had a seizure.
the seizures are your moms brain miss firing. anxiety is your pituitary gland overflowing with adrenaline. its a fight or flight response, and your body fighting...whatever is causing the panic.
also its hard for anyone when they start having panic attacks, anything can set them off, and yes....perssistant worry comes along with this.
dont worry, just make sure your mom goes to see a doctor.
also most anti anxiety meds are also anti convulsants. killing two birds with one stone.

Ive had Panic (anxiety attacks) for 8 years. Severe Panic attacks. Ive never had a seizure from them though. Are you sure that the anxiety attacks are causing her to have seizures? I worry about everything as well. Mostly the fear of death but Im slowly trying to cope with that. I have been on 23 differant medications for Panic Attacks.

panic attack
ive had panic disorder my whole life. today i had a panic attac at a "2nd chance" place and they had to call the paramedics. i started getting dizzy whitch made me start hyperventilating then the hyperventilating turned into a seizure until i passed out n stopped breathing for a couple minutes. i finally opened my eyes and there were so many people i got dizzy again then i herd the fire truck n ambulance outside and started hyperventilating again. its very stressful. i didnt want help. they wouldnt leave me alone and it was stressing me out! but i got through it. it is a very traumatic experience. that was the first time a started seizing. i usually just pass out. but it scared me. i thought i was dying.

I thnk this is possible
Last week i had the first seizure i have had in 7 years, thought i would never have another one after cutting out alcohol, cigarettes and starting a new diet/exercise regime. It was preceded by a panic attack which lasted for about two minutes, i knew i was getting light headed so thankfully had crouched to the ground brfore the seizure started. Guess it's true that hyperventilation can cause the seizures/

panic attacks that act like seizures
I have had panic attacks for at least 6 years probably longer. They seem to be getting worse and happen easier every time. A couple of years ago a psychiatrist during a Social security review said that what I was describing sounded more like a seizure. I have seen several other doctors since but none seem to think its anything more serious than a panic attack. The more this happens the worse the effects are getting. I become unable to communicate, stand or see clearly and I often forget things that happened surrounding the time of the event. It usually also comes with a numbness and tingling in my left arm and sometimes both arms and pain in the nerves that lasts for hours after. symptoms are never all exactly the same so its hard to explain to doctors. They don't seem to take it seriously but I am really scared that this could be causing long term damage to my neurological system. I have more chronic nerve pain, memory and concentration difficulties and sleep problems than ever and it seems to be getting worse. I've been trying to research these symptoms and it sounds like a seizure but it always starts with the stress and anxiety attacks. I read about psychogenic non epileptic seizures which sounds like it but I'm only finding it in people with epilepsy and I'm wondering if anyone else has this without epilepsy but with panic attacks like me. Is this something thats just not well known yet?
If this sounds familiar to you please let me know. I could use some support because it is really scary and confusing.

How I solved my panick attacks
I started getting panic attacks approx 4 years ago (In my early 30's). Started mildly, then became more intense and more easily set off. Basically my heart would race, I'd get dizzy and on a couple of occasions I passed out waking up surrounded by folks that said I was having a seizure. I smoke marijuana occasionally and sometimes (not every time) I'd get those attacks after smoking. BUT....what I did find out is that caffeine played a role. Have always been a coffee drinker and was told by my mom to quit...that she developed anxiety issues from coffee. So I quit coffee and took a break from smoking. It took time but the symptoms did subside and finally went away completely (over the course of 6-8 months). Now I can smoke again with no problems and nothing else triggers the attacks. I'm sticking with decaf from now on! My suggestion is to take at least a month off of caffeine (if your a coffee/coke drinker) and see what happens. Now I'm so sensitive to caffeine I can feel it from eating chocolate. Hope this helps someone.

stress seizures
My 19 year old daughter has had stess seizures now for years and they last for up to 7 hours. We've learned not to call 911 anymore, as the valium makes her worse. She is completely disabled from these seizures and anything can set them off. We had been doing therapy, antidepressants, diet changes, praying, etc. . She has grown out of her childhood epilepsy as confirmed by a doctor. She can't drive, can't work, can't go to school and often wants to kill herself. We've run out of ideas. Researching this disorder on the internet is pretty depressing as I don't see any real cure:(
