While I can understand your discomfort in bringing up your concern, it is important to remember that you are talking about your health. There is no need to feel embarrassed about an experience that is common and universal to human beings. Everyone experiences days where they are not feeling their best. This is also an opportunity for your doctors to get to know you better when you share an intimate aspect of your life with another, especially a professional.

I would begin the conversation by acknowledging that you are feeling uncomfortable in discussing a certain topic. Tell the GP about your symptoms or how you are feeling, thinking, behaving that may be different. Also discuss any changes lately in yourself that are not typical of you. Examples may include sleeping patterns, mood, appetite, weight change if any. Remember, doctors are there to listen and help.

Request that the doctor rule out any medical cause for your symptoms. Have the physician refer you to a qualified therapist that can assist you in treating depression or anxiety.
