Secondary Liver Cancer
Posted: 05-28-08 13:39pm

Hi there, my Mum has cancer and has just had her chemotherapy treatment stopped as they were not happy with her blood results.
I am looking I suppose for some support / advice as it is not always easy to get time of work to go with her and chat with consultants.
I am also very annoyed that we are at this stage whereby she had actually been told that she definitely did not have cancer by her local hospital something she and I are very aggrieved about although I / we will tackle that at some other time.
Her quality of life at the moment is awful and very upsetting - ie very tired always and being sick a fair bit.
Look forward to hearing from others and helpful information.

Sorry to hear for your mum's condition!

Was she treated for the primary cancer?
Is only one area of the liver affected?
What other symptoms she has?

Feeling tired is a common side effect of liver problems because one of the responsibilities of the liver is to store carbohydrates, allowing for a quick release of energy when necessary.
When your liver is not working well, its ability to store this energy is not effective, creating feelings of lethargy.

Also, fatigue is the most common side effect of cancer itself and its treatment.
About 90% of patients experience fatigue during and after chemotherapy or radiation.
