I've had back problems since I was a teenager, I'm now 33. It would always be the occasional slipped disc here and there, after a week or two of rest the problem would go away. When I was 27 my back went out and once again it healed a couple weeks later, but at the same time, I noticed that my hip started to hurt, I also noticed that my back started to be more crooked. It kept getting worse and worse until the point where I could barely walk, laying down helped. After about 4 months it seemed to clear up and go away. Now as of last year I started having a tight feeling in my right buttox muscle when I walked, the more I walked the worse it got...it got really tight and eventually hurt so bad that the pain was unbearable. That's when my back started to curve again. I went through most of 2008 in pain, up until August where it the hip pain was becoming worse and worse, then all of sudden over night I was in agony. I woke the next day and could barely move. I went to doctors and chiropractor. the doctor gave me pain pills and steroids for the inflammation. That really didn't do anything for me, the chiropractor put me on spinal decompression, but that seemed to make it worse. I don't have insurance, so MRI's and all that are out of the question. I'm still in pain and here it is, April 2009, it's not as bad as when it first started, but my hip is really hurting, I also notice that it pops when I move it. Almost feels like it's dislocated. Could it be out of socket or could it be that the socket is worn out?

The hip is a complex joint that takes enormous daily strain. If your pelvis is tilted, then one hip starts to take extra loading, eventually causing severe pain from the overuse/ misuse of the tendons and musculature. Your body recovers a bit with rest, but then the process starts all over. Bursa are often irritated and become inflamed.
What you may be experiencing (ie the 'popping'), may be the ileopsoas tendon 'snapping' as it moves over bone.
Of course scoliosis may be a symptom, rather than a cause. (Are you sure your legs are exactly the same length? That might sound a dumb question...but many people's legs are not, for one reason or another, and the simple answer to the pain issue is a shoe-lift!! - so correcting the pelvic tilt, and easing the back pain). You need expert assessment by a physio.

I feel your pain... for real!
Beast,
I am struggling with almost exactly the same problems! I have had pain in my left hip and lower back for 3 years now. I have scoliosis and my left leg is 1/2'' shorter than the right. My left hip joint pops and clicks all the time, and lately the pain has been getting much worse because I've had to walk more. I have muscle spasms in my leg almost every night, and now it's hard to get out of bed. Oh, and I just turned 30. I've been wearing a shoe lift, but it hasn't helped much. Good luck!
