Hi...I have a big problem with my Schnauzer. Her name is Molly. She is 7 years old.here is what happened. We were in the back yard playing with her chewy hamburger toy.I throw it and she runs lickedy split after it.She loves to play. Anyway, I threw it and she was watching me and not what was behind her.She ran into the pick nick table. Crying or Very sad She hit it so hard she was dazed and under her left eye she drew blood. I put Neosporin on it and after a few days it healed but now she seems to be loosing her sight!!!! I don't know if this is related but it seems to have started fading a few days after she hit the chair.. Neutral The thing is both eyes are looking glazed and smokey..
Its breaking my heart.I cant afford to take her to the vet at this time. Its tight $$ wise for at least the next 2 months...so what could it be? A friend of mine is a nurse and said that she could have scratched her retina or something and to give her a week or two to see if she gets better or worse. So far she has stayed the same.I have been looking closely at her eyes and i am starting to think it is glaucoma..her eyes are looking hazy and smoky...could glaucoma start so quickly.Doesn't it take years or months or can it happen over days with dogs? Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Peace and Love,
Homer

Hey You
Homie (S) , I am so sorry to hear of Mollys accident. At 7, she is literally 49, but that is no reason for the glazy eyes. Call a vet and talk to tem about your dilima, asking for suggestions until you can get in to see them. CAll several if you ahve too, someone somewhere can tell you things yo might can do in the meantime. Here at UGA we have a vet teaching school, and you can get discounted rates. If someone sees you are genuinely concerned for Miss Molly, they surely will be able to help you. Some even offer a payment plan. I had I think triple antibacteria, may have been only neosporin (call first to confirm) and I put these in both of my Llhasa Apso's eyes for infections. PLease keep me posted. I love animals (some better than people)! Hugs to you and Miss Molly

Fairy*Godmother, thank you so much much,my dear...I am so worried and like you,I love animals and think they have so more to offer than most people.Unconditional love..its awesome.
I will do what you suggested.I will call them on Monday for sure. I appreciate you so very very much for your quick and compassionate response..your a true and wonderful lover of all people and creatures.. thanks respect luvcomp
Peace and Love to you..your a true friend to me and I appreciate you so much, I am just beside myself.I have to get it together because sitting around crying for her isnt helping or accomplishing anything. I took her out today and tried to throw her toy.If it isnt right there in front of her she doesn't see it. Same with her treats,I used to be able to put them here or there or anywhere and she could find them. Now even if I have it in my hand she doesn't seem to see it! Thank you again..

So sorry homie, I dont know what it could be. It seems more like it would be a scratch to me but i dont know for sure. Maybe before the incident you werent really paying attention to her eyes but they were starting to get glossy (I really hope not) I am crossing my fingers for a very speedy recovery from Molly. Give her a hug and a kiss from me!!
kiss
Did you call the vet yet to see what they had to say?

thanks FairyGodMother...the prayers are working I think...she seems slightly better and the eye seems not as bulging...so keep praying and cross fingers that its something she can recover from on her own. I am still gonna have her checked unless she recovers 100%...thanks,hun...love you so much,
Homer

write Dearest F*GM,
Love you, love the way you say"I run into chairs on the way to pee all the time......Miss Molly by golly is gonna be ok. Hers a good girl and God loves her and will take care of her! Wink So cute...and true for us all i am sure! Embarassed
So here is what happened today.Nothing conclusive was found. The vet said her eyes were retinal problems.Running into the patio table and the dining room chair was a symptom, not the cause. That is the same as saying it is something that we will have to deal with.Nothing can be done.He said she looked very healthy, her weight was good, her teeth, fur and everything was fine. He is going to have a meeting with another vet but I am afraid it is what it is.
He said as long as we don't move furniture around and stuff like that then she will manage. She can adjust as this has probably been intensifying slowly and we just didn't notice until it became obvious and she started running into things. We are going to have to get her to slow down and be careful.I think she will on her own as her eyesight fades. She eats and goes out with no problem.I have dogie steps leading up to the bed and to my couch and chair. She is using the steps now where as she used to jump up.As long as she is careful then she will be OK. Loosing sight but OK otherwise. He said in white and silver schnauzers that they have problems. She isn't a young dog.She is going to be OK,we are just going to have to adapt and be careful. Thank you for praying for her. And for being such the sweetheart! luvcomp
I Love You,F*GM tiphat
Always and thanks again,
Homer rainbow

YEAH
Hi Sweets, was so glad to hear Miss Molly is healthy. Hers getting to be an ole girl like me. I have to get stronger reading glasses, I have 30% hearing loss in both ears......whats NEXT?I'm only 51........ She will adapt and get use to where things are. I had a little llhasa that developed eye problems and I wet through this myself. It breaks my heart, but, hey, we have given them the best possible life they could have asked for. God allowed us time with these little animals, and we DO WHAT WE HAVE TOO! Give her extra love and attention and be patient with her. I found myself getting very impatient with my little girl "Ariel" God rest her little soul. She was 13 and had renal disease. Give her a big hug for me! Hope you are having a great Sunnday! God bless you and yours!
