I can't seem to find information on bone growth after a pin is place. My nephew is nearly 12 and surely hasn't reached his mature hieght. He had the pin placed this week in his left hip. I'd like to know if the placement of the pin to "fix" the growth plate into position causes it to stop growing, resulting in a shorter leg.

My daughter also had SCFE surgery. Our orthopedic dr told us that her thigh bone will not grow any longer after the surgery, but, that at her age- which was only 10- that bone was almost done growing. Kids will continue to grow from the knee down, so overall height will be impacted, but not too significantly. Hope this helps! Have you heard anything else about thsi since your post?
