Recurrent infections (urinary tract), urinary obstruction (long standing), urinary stones, vasculitis, reduced blood flow resulting in ischemic damage to renal tissue, etc are common causes of scarring in the kidney.
Such processes in due time can result in reduced functioning of the kidney.
