scan showed the glands and grown and where more

Please help I am so worried. Been suffering with swollen neck glands recently. I am 48 years of age and in good health. About 6 months ago I went to the doctors because I came out in a rash on the back of my neck and small scabs on my scalp just near my hair where i tie it up with a bobble. I had a scan in feb and they said glands in my neck up and would re-scan in 3 months time and also look at my thyroid. first scan showed multiple nodules on thyroid gland but not to worry, glands on neck did not show for concern, but now today after receiving second results from scan last monday the doctor now wants to refer me to a ear, throat and nose specialist. Said would put down as urgent as wanted to rule out cancer although he did say i did not have cancer as he did not know but had to say it.. He said the scan showed the glands and grown and where more of them. help please, could this be serious or am i worrying far too much, just don't know what to think.
