Hello

About 5 weeks ago, I was in India and got ill (stomach cramp, diarrhea, slight fever). This was on our last day there and it lasted for about 2 days.
When I got home to Canada, i felt okay except that my stools were always a bit runny and never solid. 2 weeks later i developed a high fever for 3 days (103), followed by 12 days of a low-grade fever (about 99.5). I had no other symptoms other then the fever and the soft stool. My doctors could not figure out where the fever was coming from. I ran many blood tests which all came back normal. The fever subsided after 15 days and i am normal again except I have some pain in pelvic, lower abdomen, lower back region. I then had a stool sample done and it showed that I had salmonella. Is it possible that the prolonged fever and the soft stools is a result of the salmonella and could it have been from India 5 weeks ago? Does salmonella last that long?
Thanks in advance for any advice you might have.
-Susan

Susan,
Salmonella poisoning can cause a Reactive Arthritis or Ankylosing Spondylitis(a type of arthritis). This happened to my husband. I would research it or maybe talk to a Rheumatologist about it. I hope this is not your case though. Good luck!
