What are safe and effect pills for sleep? I have to take something every night. I am getting tired of not being able to sleep without pills. I take pills to sleep and pills to wake up with and pills to stay awake. I need some information.

Hello
I would see a doctor. They might be able to prescribe you something that you can take for the long term. I have taken over the counter sleeping pills before, which contain Diphenhydramine. They will help you to fall asleep quicker, and stay asleep longer. You can try chamomile or valerian root. They have helped me in the past. Also, maybe you could take a look at what is causing this. Are you a smoker, because nicotine can cause insomnia. Do you drink too much coffee? Are you taking other pills or stimulants? Are you eating enough? I would advise you not take stimulants. Cut out coffee and stimulants for a few months, and you should go back to sleeping normally. Good luck. Smile

Hi,

I've had insomnia for about a year now. I've been through so many different types of perscription sleep pills and over the counter stuff and the only thing that seems to work is ambien. However, I sleep walk and take other pills while I'm on the Ambien. I'm so frustrated. I've tried Melatonin but it does nothing for me. My doctor prescribed me some Zanax and I'm trying that tonight but I hate relying on pills to put me to sleep. I'm on a pretty strict diet because of IBS and IC so I don't drink or take any stimulants much at all. Any other suggestions?
