Q: S.I. joint dysfunction recovery ?

i'm 28 years old and am a professional boxer and for the past 7 years have been in constant good shape, but in May of last year I injured my back during a run. After 3 months, 4 doctors, 2 cortizone shots, muscle relaxers, x-rays, an MRI and much severe pain, I was diagnosed with an S.I. joint dysfunction. I received a shot in the joint at a surgery center in August, and was sent to physical therapy. I went twice a week for about 2 months, then once a week for another 6 weeks or so.

My therapist showed me stretches to do daily and showed my husband how to stretch me to realign my hips (my right side is always high) and said I wouldn't need to come back unless I was in a lot of pain or we couldn't align my hips. The pain was getting bad again so I saw my pain management doctor and she said I needed another shot. I had that done 3 days ago. I stayed in bed and off my feet all that day, took it easy yesterday, and stayed off my feet and rested most of today. I have been doing my stretches and I ice my back regularly, and i am in just as much, if not more pain now than I was before this last shot. It didn't take me near as long to recover in August.

I have not tried to work out or run since I started all this and I have been doing research am interested to try the sacroilac belt, but I have yet to see where anyone has fully recovered from this kind of dysfunction. We have thrown all kinds of money at this back problem and it won't go away. Will I have to do stretches and have this pain for the rest of my life? I've long since given up on ever boxing again, but is there any way for me to just live my everyday life without pain? I own and run a restaurant, I have 2 4th grade boys and a household to run, I can't afford to be in pain when I walk. Is there any hope?

update? How are you doing?
I read your e-mail about your SI problem. I have the same or similar problem. You last post was in February. I'm wondering how you are doing now.

I have been experiencing a similar problem for the past six months. Similarly to you I have been to PT, a doctor, MRIs, X-rays, cortisone shots. Just recently I went to see a foot doctor - someone who specilizes in custom-made orthotics. I have only begun to use them, but they have corrected my posture and walking gait. I am hoping that this is the root of the problem. Good luck and don't give up!
