Have an almost completely torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder. I was carrying in groceries and lost my balance and fell on my right shoulder. This is not my dominant arm and I already have a previous injury to the same arm in that a tendon was torn completely off the inside of my elbow. By the time it was properly diagnosed it was too late to reattach. Knowing this and also that the pain was managed pretty well by cortisone shots and ibuprofen should I consider surgery? FYI this happened at least a year ago and it has only been the last couple months it has bothered me even after the shots. Please note the bothersome pain only occurs about 2-3 days a week.

Hi Bob and welcome to ehealth: My husband had his surgery done on his right shoulder three years after he fell on the ice...He, too, had a problem with it being diagnosed...It was a nasty tear...Took a while to heal, but he is so happy that he had it done...At the time it was done he could not even push the button in an elevator...My best advice is to fix it...Take care...
