Q: Right ovarian pain

For the past 3 years I have experienced pain in my right ovary when I am ovulate. This pain last for 4 days. This discomfort started mild and has progressed throughout the years. I have two old children and a 3 1/2 year old. Six month after she was born, I elected my usual birth control treatment-IUD.
Within 4 months, I had pain in my right ovary. The OBGYN informed me that my body had expelled the device. During intercourse when I am not ovulating (I do not take birth control pills) I have pain. It feels like someone has kicked my right ovary.

I have had 3 ultrasounds within the years. The most recent ultra sound reports the following: Uterus 82x56x61 mm(sagittal,AP,transverse). Endrometrium est. 8 mm.A couple of cervical cysts were seen. Also noted two hypoechoic areas-1 at the mid lower portion of the uterus measuring 7x4x12mm & one at the body/fundus portion 12x10x11mm. Compatible with leiomyomas. Right ovary est. 39x20x32 mm.
Left ovary est. 27x13x26mm. Right ovary showed a cyst est. 24x18x21mm. Adjacent to this there was a hypoechoic area with some internal echoes/possibly even with some shadowing measuring 20x15x23mm. It was not hyperechoic, as seen in fat. The left ovary showed multiple small cystic areas, one of which may be complex wih septation. The cyst measured approximately 13x7x10mm. No free fluid was seen.

My new OBGYN(due to insurance change) has suggested to removed the uterus and at the same time the right ovary. There is no guarentee that my pain and discomfort will go away.
I am going on 38 and I am healthy. I started my period at an early age 9 1/2. I don't want to have surgery if it's not going to help. What is causing this pain during ovulation and sex? My periods have serious cramping for two days. The cycle last 6 days / heavy -normal.
Any thoughts on what this could be?

Did your doc suggest a laparoscopy to remove the cysts? It seems that would be a better first step, rather than removing the uterus... They can also remove only the affected ovary, leaving you with one that is functional and you will still have a normal cycle. Usually (from what I've read) they only take out the uterus if cancer is suspected.

I was wondering if anyone here can help me? 2 years ago i had a left ovary removed due to a complex mass. Before the surgery my life side hurt a lot and i was always bleeding. now for a couple months ive had the same symptoms again, not as severe though,on my right side, including the bleeding. ive been going to the doctor since june and had countless ultrasounds. there is a mass on my right ovary and polpys in my uterus. i have an appointment in 3 weeks to discuss a care plan with my doctor. i also had a blood test with a high count of ca-125. im scared im going to lose my other ovary. im only 25, and single. what are the chances that im going to have surgery again, and lose my other ovary? is this something i should be worried about, im really confused? help! any explanation of anything will be helpful
